A Step Ahead – Youngest ever designer to showcase his talents at Bloom 2023

Our own Joe Eustace is the winner of Bord Bia’s new “Cultivating Talent” competition. The inaugural winner of the award, aimed to support emerging talent within Irish horticulture, he is also the youngest ever designer to bring a show garden to Bloom.

Joe grew up in a household that was deeply rooted in nature and has been passionate about gardening from a very young age. As soon as he could walk he was handed some gardening tools and set to work in the garden!

Joe and his father, Ken, started an online garden design company, (Onlinegardendesigns.ie), which offers an accessible and affordable landscape design service. The aim is to open the online service to all budget levels and the opportunity for clients to work with an experienced and dedicated team who will transform your outdoor space into a year-round stunning garden experience.

Working on residential and commercial spaces, Joe, Ken and the team have seen an uplift in the need for sensory garden layouts, incorporating elements and planting that engage the senses through sight, smell, touch, taste and sound can bring endless benefits to anyone who interacts with the garden.

With Bloom 2023 opening on the 1st June to the public and running for 5 days, Joe is now in full build mode, moving his creative from paper to reality. His garden, The Next Step, is a concept garden that depicts a person’s journey through life. Like life itself, unpredictability is at the core of this design reflected with undulating paths, focal points and destinations within the landscape. Visitors will ponder to find what the next correct step is to move around the garden, however there is no one path. Sustainably sourced planting used in the design will be recycled into future projects following the festival, along with all steel and glassworks.
